NDIS Support Coordination in Hurstville and St George

Overview

We coordinate across the St George area, including Hurstville, Rockdale, Kogarah, Allawah, Carlton, Penshurst, Beverly Hills and Arncliffe.

What we see

What we see in Hurstville

Hurstville and Rockdale hold two of the largest Nepali-speaking communities in Australia, alongside long-established Chinese and wider South Asian communities. We coordinate in Nepali and Hindi as well as English, and in this part of Sydney that changes what the work looks like. Families stop needing a relative to translate their own plan. Questions get asked that were never asked through an interpreter. The plan starts belonging to the person it was written for.

Much of the Nepali community here is newer to Australia, and many families are working out residency, work and a complex disability system at the same time. What the scheme can fund, what evidence it needs, and the fact that a plan can be changed before it expires are often news. Explaining that properly, in the language of the household, is half the coordination.

Local knowledge

Local knowledge

St George Hospital in Kogarah anchors health services for the district, and coordination here often begins at discharge, when a plan exists and nothing in it has started. Those first weeks are the ones we treat as urgent.

We also work alongside the multicultural and community services operating across Hurstville and Rockdale rather than around them.

In Hurstville we provide support coordination, specialist support coordination and psychosocial recovery coaching.
