Surry Hills
Overview
We coordinate across inner Sydney, including Surry Hills, Redfern, Waterloo, Darlinghurst, Glebe, Woolloomooloo and Chippendale. We already work with participants in this community.
What we see
Inner Sydney holds some of the largest social housing communities in Australia, including the Waterloo estate and the towers and walk-ups of Surry Hills. Living here means services are technically everywhere and practically hard to hold onto. Providers come and go, workers change, and people with long histories in the system have usually been let down by parts of it before.
That history matters for how coordination has to work. Trust is not assumed on the first visit. We turn up in person, we keep the same coordinator on the file, and we do what we said we would do by the date we said. For people whose disability is psychosocial, that consistency is not a courtesy. It is the intervention.
The other pattern here is plans written thin. A person who has learned to get by presents as managing, and the plan funds the good weeks. We build the evidence for what the hard weeks actually look like, which is where funding for this community is usually lost.
Local knowledge
The estate renewal underway across Waterloo and Redfern means years of relocation, disruption and change for residents, and disability supports have to hold steady through it. We coordinate with that reality in view, and we work alongside the neighbourhood and community centres that residents already know and trust rather than around them.
St Vincent’s, RPA and the inner city mental health services are common referral points in this area, and coordination often starts at discharge. The weeks straight after a hospital stay are the ones we treat as urgent.
Coordination is available in English, Hindi and Nepali.
In Surry Hills we provide support coordination, specialist support coordination and psychosocial recovery coaching.
Working with Vitalya
We never coordinate and deliver direct supports for the same participant. No conflicts of interest, ever. We work with plan-managed and self-managed participants. Coordination is available in English, Hindi and Nepali. All NDIS supports are GST-free under section 38-38 of the GST Act.
No. VII. The next step.
Same business day response on every referral. Plan managed and self managed welcome across Sydney. The form takes three minutes.
Acknowledgement of Country.
Vitalya operates on the lands of the Garigal people of the Eora Nation. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters, and community. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who engage with our practice.
